7 new Iranian maize hybrids produced in Maize and Forage Crops Research Department of SPII with control hybrids KSC704 (as hybrid no. 8), Paya (KSC715B as hybrid no. 9) and TWC647 (as hybrid no. 10) were evaluated in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications to the comparison of their fresh forage yield and dry matter in Karaj, Isfahan, Kermanshah, Mashad, Fars, and Dezful in 2020 and 2022. Each plot was 6 m long and 1.5 m wide and the rows were 75 cm apart in all treatments and all the replicates considering an inter-row spacing of 14.5 m (92000 plants per hectare). All agronomical operations were carried out based on the usual methods in the maize and forage research department of SPII. The traits such as days to anthesis, days to silking, ASI, plant height, ear height, number of leaves, stem diameter, fresh and dry weight of whole plant and ear separately in the first doughy stage of kernels were measured. Based on the results of the combined analysis of regions over the two years of testing, it can be concluded that among the hybrids with acceptable stability including hybrids no. 3 (K47/2-2-1-4-1-1-1 × K18), 4 (KLM91001/2-2-4-1-2-3-1-1×B73), 5 (KLM91001/2-2-4-1-2-2-1-1×B73), 6 (KLM91001/2-2-4-1-2-3×K18), 7 (KLM9004/2-1-2-12-1-1-3×K18), and 9 (KSC715B - Paya). Hybrids number 9, 4, and 7 were superior in terms of fresh forage and dry matter yield compared to the other hybrids, especially hybrid number 8 (Single Cross 704). These hybrids had an average number of days to flowering compared to the other hybrids examined in this study. Hybrid number 3 had later flowering but thicker stems. Hybrids number 4 and 8 showed greater plant height and ear size compared to the other hybrids. The hybrid Paya (number 9) also had relatively good dry matter content. In terms of ear percentage, hybrids 1, 2, and 10 were better, but the hybrids with slightly higher yields had lower quality indices compared to the others. Considering all the characteristics, hybrids 9, 4, and 7 had better quantitative performance, as well as average ear dry matter and ear index, and greater stability, making them more recommendable than the others.
