In order to commercialize, it is necessary to compare the requested variety with the varieties in the national list of the country using morphological traits, and if it has the three conditions of differentiation, uniformity and stability in the desired traits, it will be considered as a new variety in the national list of plant varieties of the country. For this purpose, 16 foreign sugar beet cultivars and 35 domestic promising hybrids and their parental lines along with two sugar beet controls, a total of 117 genotypes, were evaluated in complete randomized block design with two replications for two years (2021 and 2022) at the research station of Abdol Rasul Motahari, affiliated to the Sugar Beet Seed Institute. Morphological traits including 24 traits were measured on each genotype according to the national guidelines of the sugar beet DUS test. Out of the recorded qualitative traits, eight traits of leaf anthocyanin color at harvest, the main color of the lower part of the petiole, the shape of the longitudinal section of the root, the shape of the root base, the hairiness of the root, the appearance color of the root, the color of the main root tissue and the intensity of the main color of the root tissue did not show difference among cultivars and had similar manifestations. Of the remaining eight qualitative traits, seed type, petiole status, leaf blade status, leaf blade shape, leaf blade green color intensity, wavy leaf margin, leaf blade protrusion, and distinctness of root rings between cultivars showed difference among cultivars. Cultivars in terms of leaf length with petiole, root width, leaf blade width, root length and leaf blade length (LBL) showed significant difference at the one percent probability level and for root position in the soil had significant difference at the five percent probability level, however cultivars had no significant difference in terms of petiole basal width. These cultivars will be included in the national list of plant cultivars of Iran after passing the agronomic value test.
