Blast disease caused by Pyricularia oryzae is one of the most important rice diseases in north of Iran. One of the most economical solutions in blast disease control is to use resistant varieties. In this study, to investigate resistance, 15 lines introduced from Mazandaran and Guilan, along with two control cultivars (susceptible and resistant) were seeded in the blast nursery plots under upland conditions in mid-July. Also, the reactions of 53 lines from Mazandaran to leaf blast disease were studied only in Mazandaran. Varietal reactions to leaf blast were scored 30 days based on Standard Evaluation System for Rice. The reaction of 15 lines to neck blast was evaluated using the method of injecting a pathogen isolate at the panicle neck area. Of the 15 lines studied at the leaf stage in Mazandaran and Guilan, 6 and 9 lines were evaluated with scores of 1, 2, and 3, respectively, all of which are resistant to blast disease. Also, 8 and9 lines were resistant to neck blast disease in Mazandaran and Guilan, respectively. 34 from the 53 lines studied at the leaf stage in Mazandaran, showed resistance reaction to blast disease.
